The hotel has a long history which began in 1909 where the Balka Badehotel opened.

The old hotel was a wooden structure built as a classic seaside hotel, and situated where the main building is today.

In 1971-1972 the first three wings with rooms where built towards the east. The hotel  was growing and for the season in 1974 the two western wings and the main building where completed and ready.

The interior of the main building is some of the finest in 1974; The reception and lounge are furnished with furniture and lamp designed by Verner Panton. The furniture is from the range Pantonova, the lamps over the tables are called Topan and the floor lamps are Panthella.

The bar stools are designed by Piet Hein and manufactured by Fritz Hansen. The tables and chairs in the restaurant are designed by Rud Thygesen for the munfacturer Magnus Olesen. Paintings are by the painter and printmaker Poul Hauch-Fausbøll. The ceramic lamps in the restaurant are from Søholm, Bornholm.

For the season 2020 all outdoor paths have been restored. The old pool is renewed with a new with an integrated children pool. Around the pool the patio has been relayed, and against the main building terraces, stairs and water drainage have been renewed. Throughout the grounds lamps have been replaced for a better light in the dark.

In 2022 we completed renovation of all rooms, which now are light, friendly and with new bathrooms.
